What is learning disability care?
Mencap describe a learning disability as a condition which might include reduced intellectual ability and a difficulty with everyday activities e.g. household tasks, socialising or managing money. It will be a condition which affects someone for their whole life.
People with a learning disability tend to take longer to learn and may need support to develop new skills, understand complicated information and interact with other people.
Our approach to learning disability care
Barleyfield House and Montgomery House in Shrewsbury offer specialist support to people with Learning Disabilities.
Guests tend to be referred to us there through Shropshire Council although we can always provide advice and suitable contact details if required.
We refer to people staying at the home, usually for periods of up to a couple of weeks, as guests.
We aim to provide short term care in a relaxing and caring environment for our guests to be treated as they would were they on holiday. We enable people to expand their capabilities, expectations and experiences within a safe environment.
You will be involved in all household routines and you will be able to choose and help prepare meals. In the evenings guests select what they would like to do, ensuring they thoroughly enjoy their stay.
