Book a Home Visit

Nestled in Bishop’s Castle, a town situated in beautiful South Shropshire, Stone House offers residential accommodation for 40 older people with or without dementia.

The home has recently refurbished the dementia unit focusing on local landmarks of interest in particular the farming community. It uses assistive technology to support the residents whilst encouraging independence.

Unusually the home is physically attached to the recently refurbished community hospital, for which we provide catering and facilities management. Because of the closeness to the hospital and the way in which medical and paramedical services are delivered to the hospital and wider community, the home enjoys particularly strong relations with the local GPs and wider community team.

Stone House has regular visits from the district nurses, local chiropodist, optician, physiotherapist and occupational therapist, enabling us to meet the needs of our residents.

Stone House has enjoyed and continues to enjoy strong and enduring inks with the local community and is a grateful recipient of support from the Friends of Bishops Castle community and in addition a wider network of volunteers. The home offers an interesting programme of daily activities for those who wish to take part and restful lounges for those who wish to read or chat.

There is an opportunity to attend the day centre widely used by the local community.

Our food is freshly cooked in our own kitchen where we are able to meet all dietary requirements offering a nutritional and varied menu.

Stone House has a dedicated Manager who leads a skilled and conscientious team described in the latest Care Quality Commission's reports as delivering “Outstanding” care.

From the moment our residents join us, Stone House is their home and we are here to support them. We talk to our residents and their families to find out what is important to them as individuals and help them to carry on participating in activities that have individual meaning.

Our specially trained and enthusiastic activities staff are excellent at helping our residents enjoy their life with us at Stone House where our staff work with residents to create a week by week schedule of activities to include a mix of physical, social, creative, recreational, sensory, relaxation and reminiscence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I come and visit Stone House or spend some time here before I decide?

Of course. We would love for you, and your family, to come and visit. We know that choosing to live somewhere new, particularly in your older years, can be daunting so it’s really important you feel comfortable. Please do arrange a visit either through the website “Book a Visit” link on each home page or by contacting the Home Manager directly.

Who will be looking after me at Stone House?

Our ‘brilliant’ staff! When you visit and also on moving in to our home you will soon get to know familiar friendly faces with dedicated members of staff who will be responsible for making sure your needs are met. Additional support to our care homes comes from central teams based in Shrewsbury.

Can I bring my furniture to Stone House?

We want you to feel at home and would encourage you to bring personal items if you’d like to as long as space allows. There are some safety regulations on soft furnishings, but in reality, this rarely causes difficulties.

Can my family visit Stone House and stay for a meal?

Your family and friends can visit at any time, even overnight if there’s a room available and we’ve had advance notice. And yes, please let the kitchen staff know and we make a small charge for meals which will be explained by the teams in the homes when you visit and also on admission within our initial information packs.

Can I go out or on holiday?

Yes, subject to appropriate support and your level of need we can make arrangements for days out too and sometimes for short breaks and long weekends as well.

What does it cost to live at Stone House?

The fees charged depends on your needs, accommodation and support and the type of care you’re looking for. Together we will discuss and assess your requirements and the home manager will give you an inclusive cost for your care and accommodation. Any additional charges and also deposit will be discussed and are explained in our contract and other documents which you will need to sign on admission. You may also be eligible for funding from the local authority or the NHS dependent on your care needs and your funding position.

Where can I find funding advice?

We know how complex the means-tested funding position in terms of UK social care is.

If you have assets, assessed by social services above £23,250 in England then it is likely that you will need to fund all of the accommodation care and support costs under current UK legislation. We will be clear on what our fees are on admission.

If you have assets below £23,250 then the Local Authority may fund part or potentially all of your accommodation care and support. Prior to admission we will need to be advised of the fee to determine whether or not the Local Authority contribution is adequate enough to cover the full fees. We appreciate this is sensitive and we talk to you and social services colleagues prior to admission.

It is important to understand each person is different in terms of both their needs and funding position. Whilst we cannot give funding advice we will be clear on your fees and charges. You can also find a wealth of information via Age UK or Age Concern https://www.ageuk.org.uk/

Where can I find more information on dementia?

Dementia affects everyone differently and we can talk to you directly about issues or concerns you might be facing. Alternatively, the Alzheimer’s Society has a wealth of information available on its website https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/
