As we reflect on the past 30 years, Coverage Care takes a moment to honor Avis, a cherished former employee and now a beloved resident at Innage Grange in Bridgnorth.
Avis began her career as a secretary at the then Innage House in 1972. As the first point of contact for visitors, whether they were family members, doctors, or social workers, Avis quickly became a familiar and friendly face to many. Born and raised in Bridgnorth, she had a unique connection with the community and knew many of the residents personally, including some who had been there since the days when Innage House served as the old workhouse.
Her dedication went beyond her secretarial duties. Avis ran a small shop for the residents, always ready with a laugh and a joke. She played an active role in organizing coffee mornings, cheese and wine evenings, and various fundraising events for the residents' comfort fund. These events often included entertaining shows, bringing joy and a sense of community to everyone involved.
One of Avis's memorable tasks was doing the banking every Thursday. She was often seen walking down Bridgnorth High Street with one of the residents, particularly Brian, a younger resident with Down Syndrome who was well-known and loved by everyone in town.
In 1995, after many years of dedicated service, Avis moved next door to the newly built Innage Grange. She continued to work there until she took early retirement due to arthritis in her fingers.
In 2023, Avis returned to Innage Grange, this time as a resident. Her presence continues to be a source of warmth and inspiration to all who know her. Coverage Care is proud to celebrate Avis's lifelong commitment to the community and her enduring spirit.
