We're delighted to welcome Kate Jenkins to Coverage Care as our newest Home Support Officer - bringing with her a wonderfully varied career, and a genuine passion for supporting the people at the heart of our homes.
Kate's path into care wasn't a conventional one. After university, she spent ten years teaching English abroad, immersing herself in different cultures and building a career around helping others learn and grow.
She later returned to the UK and moved into financial services - but over time, Kate found herself looking for work that felt more meaningful.
That search led her to retrain as a nurse.
While she quickly discovered that ward nursing wasn't the right fit for her, she found her place in care homes instead, where she could build real relationships with residents and make a difference to their everyday lives, not just their clinical care.
Now, as a Home Support Officer, Kate is using everything she's learned along the way - her people skills from teaching, her attention to detail from financial services, and her clinical knowledge from nursing - to help our home managers and teams provide the best possible support to residents.
"What I'm most excited about is developing the role - the clinical analysis side of things, and monitoring care plans," says Kate.
"Well-written care plans determine how well we are looking after people. I love visiting the homes and monitoring the monthly outcomes, and working to reduce the number of incidents and risks."
It's this kind of varied life experience that makes such a difference in social care. Kate's journey is a reminder that meaningful careers in care can start from anywhere - and that the skills we build along the way, wherever they come from, often turn out to be exactly what's needed to support others well.
