A much loved member of staff at Coverage Cares Woodcroft in Market Drayton has retired after an extraordinary 48 years of service.
Chris Fair, who joined the home as its maintenance man in the 1970s, was presented with a long service award from the company’s directors last week in recognition of his decades of dedication, reliability and hard work.
Over nearly half a century, Chris became known as the person who could turn his hand to anything. Whether it was a repair, a last minute fix or a resident needing a helping hand, he was always there - and always with a smile. Colleagues say nothing was ever too much trouble.

Staff and residents gathered to celebrate his retirement, sharing stories of the countless ways he supported the home. Many described him as “part of the family” and said Woodcroft simply wouldn’t have been the same without him.
One colleague said: “Chris has been an essential part of Woodcroft for almost five decades. His commitment, kindness and willingness to help anyone at any time have made a lasting impact on everyone here. He will be sorely missed.”
Chris is now looking forward to enjoying a well earned retirement with his wife, Sue.
A spokesperson for Coverage Cares added: “We thank Chris for everything he has done for our home and our community. We wish him and Sue a long, happy and very well deserved retirement.”
