For over three decades, Joyce Griffiths has been the heartbeat of Barclay Gardens. With 32 years of unwavering service, she’s not just been a staff member - she’s been a friend, a mentor, and a source of joy to everyone who’s had the pleasure of knowing her.
Joyce began her journey at Barclay Gardens with a quiet determination and a heart full of compassion. Over the years, she became a familiar and beloved face to residents and staff alike, known for her tireless work ethic, and the way she made everyone feel seen and valued.
Even after officially retiring, Joyce couldn’t stay away. Twice a week, she returns as a volunteer, bringing her signature warmth and energy to the home. Whether it’s leading a lively game of bingo, ball games, or simply sitting and chatting with residents over a cup of tea, Joyce’s presence continues to light up the room.
So why does Joyce continue to volunteer? In her own words, “I do it because it is a pleasure, I couldn’t just walk away. I really enjoy my time assisting Jo the Activities Co-ordinator with bringing joy to the resident and enhancing their lives!” For Joyce, it’s not just about giving back - it’s about staying connected to the people and place that have meant so much to her. Her days at Barclay Gardens are filled with laughter, purpose, and the joy of making a difference.
Her dedication doesn’t stop there. When Jo the Activities Co-ordinator is away on holiday, Joyce steps in without hesitation, ensuring that the rhythm of care and companionship never falters. Thanks to her help, more residents are now able to enjoy outings and experiences beyond the garden gates - moments that bring smiles, laughter, and cherished memories.
Joyce has brought a whole new ray of sunshine into the lives of our residents. Her selfless commitment and vibrant spirit are a testament to the power of kindness and community. Barclay Gardens is richer, warmer, and brighter because of her.
Thank you, Joyce, for everything. Your legacy is woven into the very fabric of our home, and your story will continue to inspire us all.
