Five years ago, when Alex Bill joined Coverage Care as I.T. Manager, the organisation - and much of the care sector - was lagging behind in digital infrastructure.
Today, thanks to his leadership and vision, Coverage Care stands as a model of modernisation in the industry.
“When I first arrived, the systems were outdated, and there was a real need for investment in both infrastructure and security,” Alex recalls. “We’ve come a long way.”
Under Alex’s guidance, the organisation has undergone a complete technological overhaul. From implementing robust I.T. infrastructure and advanced firewalls to deploying secure network systems, the transformation has been both strategic and future-focused.
The I.T. team has grown to include Simon Challenor, Senior I.T. Technician, and Hannah Gittins, I.T. Technician—forming a dynamic trio that supports the organisation’s 11 care homes across Shropshire.
Coverage Care has invested heavily in cutting-edge technology, including:
- New servers and firewalls to enhance data protection and system reliability.
- Fibre-to-the-premises broadband, delivering speeds of up to 1000 Mbps, ensuring high-speed connectivity across all sites.
- A state-of-the-art phone system that allows care staff to manage calls directly from handheld devices—improving responsiveness and communication with families and healthcare professionals.
“This isn’t just about faster internet or better phones,” Alex explains. “It’s about empowering our care teams with the tools they need to provide the best possible support to residents.”
Looking back, Alex is proud of how far Coverage Care has come. “Technology has changed dramatically in five years, and we’ve not only kept up - we’ve moved ahead.”
