Working tirelessly behind the scenes, a dedicated team of support staff operates from Allison House in Shrewsbury, ensuring that Coverage Care’s 11 homes run smoothly. This team includes HR, Finance, Payroll, IT, Training and Maintenance departments. Including several committed individuals within the Finance Team, whose service averages at 14 years.
The longest standing member of the Central office finance team is Lorraine Beddow who has dedicated 25 years to the society and Helen Woodvine 22 years.
Lorraine, a Purchase Ledger Controller, and Helen, Finance Director recall the early days of the finance team in 1995 when it was just a team of four in the whole central office. Over the years, they have witnessed significant changes, particularly in how technology has transformed their work. The introduction of document capture and the shift to becoming 90% paper-free this year will enable the team to work smarter, greener and with greater transparency. 25 years later the finance team has grown to seven.
The number of beds and the complexity of care required by residents have also increased, presenting new challenges and opportunities for the team. Despite these changes, one constant has been the unwavering support from Coverage Care through various life events. The company has been there for Lorraine and Helen during both good times and bad, also providing training and development opportunities, including supporting Helen through the final stages of her CIMA qualification and career progression to Director.
One of the toughest periods during their tenure was the COVID-19 pandemic. In true Coverage Care style, everyone pulled together. Lorraine played a key role in ensuring payments continued to suppliers, whilst balancing new processes that allowed key support staff to work from home, ensuring continuity and safety.
When asked why they have stayed with Coverage Care for so long, Lorraine and Helen shared that it never feels like going to work. They fondly remember the social aspects of their job, such as taking part in theatre productions, which were part of "Coverage Care’s Got Talent," an annual event where staff and residents partook. And dressing up for theatre outings to watch shows like the Rocky Horror Show.
Their dedication and passion are a testament to the supportive and vibrant community at Coverage Care, making it a place where both staff and residents thrive.
