Newport home gets care award

Staff at a Newport care home are celebrating after scooping an award for the way they deliver of healthcare.

The Cottage Christian Nursing Home won the team award at the Care with Confidence Awards organised by the Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in recognition of people who make an above and beyond contribution to delivering health care services in the area.

The Cottage Christian Nursing Home, which is run by Coverage Care, cares for mainly older with general nursing needs but also provides respite and palliative care.

The Care with Confidence awards is driven by the 6Cs of nursing – care, compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment – plus 12 others that the CCG’s Telford and Wrekin Patient Health Round Table consider important.

Entries were judged by a panel, based on the evidence provided in the nomination form to reflect one or more of the CCG’s 18Cs. The 12 other categories are consideration, credibility, culture, contingency, commissioning, confidentiality, comforting, common sense, confidence, creative, clarity and co-ordination.

The award was presented to a team of staff representing the home at the CCG’s annual general meeting at the Holiday Inn in Telford.

Coverage Care Chief Executive David Coull said he was very proud of the home’s achievement.

“To have the standard of care recognising as exceptional enough to win this award is a great honour. The team at the Cottage Christian Nursing Home work hard to provide the highest standard of nursing care and to have this recognised by an external agency is verification that they are achieving this.

“This is an award that reflects the efforts of the whole team at the home and my congratulations go to them all.”

Dr Jo Leahy, Chair of Telford and Wrekin CCG, said: “We had some fantastic nominations and it was a real privilege to be part of the judging process and hear such inspirational stories of care, compassion and dedication to helping those who need it in our community.

“As always choosing our winners was a difficult task but I think everyone will agree the finalists were highly deserving of their awards. I want to thank all those people who took the time to nominate – without them we wouldn’t get to hear such wonderful stories of care.”
