The maintenance manager of a Telford care home has finally hung up his tools 13 years after taking up the role as a ‘retirement’ job.

John Collins has stepped down from the job at Lightmoor View, which is run by Coverage Care and provides resident specialist nursing care for up to 75 people with dementia.

The 70-year-old joined Coverage Care in 2005 after a 32-year career as a Marine Engineer in the Merchant Navy and initially worked at its Lincoln Grange home. He moved to Lightmoor View when the purpose built facility opened in 2009.

John, who lives in Coleham, Shrewsbury, with his wife Sally, said he planned to spend more time enjoying their shared passion of canal boats as well as clay pigeon shooting but that he would miss the staff and residents at Lightmoor View.

“When I retired from the Merchant Navy I was looking for a new challenge and I have really enjoyed working at Lightmoor View over the past 13 years.

“It has been great to be a part of such a wonderful team that works so hard to look after the residents. I shall miss my colleagues and the residents but this time I am really retiring!”

David Coull, Chief Executive of Coverage Care, paid tribute to John. “Everyone at Lightmoor View has an important role to play in keeping our residents safe and secure and John has been an important part of that over the past 13 years.

“His commitment to Coverage Care has been second to none and I would like to thank him for hard work and dedication to Lightmoor View.”
