Bridgnorth care home supports food bank

Bridgnorth’s food bank received a welcome boost from a town care home after staff and residents launched an appeal to support the service.

Coverage Care’s Innage Grange dedicated its fundraising efforts to raise much needed supplies for the food bank, which provides emergency food parcels for people who need them.

Led by activities co-ordinators Julieanne Burgoyne and Claire Wright, donations, including those from visitors and residents’ families, mounted up and they eventually handed over a mountain of food ranging from tinned beans, soups and meat to condiments, cereal, pasta and biscuits, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Julieanne said: “We first collected items for Bridgnorth Food Bank during October, following our Harvest Festival.

“The collection was so successful that we decided to do another one at Christmas, in order to help less fortunate families in our local community at that special time of year, as it was a cause close to many of our hearts.

“We were staggered with the response and want to thank everyone who supported the appeal. We are sure there are many families who had their festive season made because of other people’s generosity.”

Activities manager Helen Turner said: “Everyone at Innage Grange feels very passionate about helping others less fortunate than ourselves, and we are great believers in community spirit.

“Many of our service users are from Bridgnorth and the surrounding areas, and we like to carry on their traditions, and help causes which are close to their hearts. We will continue to support Bridgnorth Food Bank with collections and fundraising into 2015.”
