Residents at a Newport care home have received a funding boost thanks to a generous family donation.

Barrie Allcock and his wife Jean, from Newport, helped to raise £550 for The Cottage Christian Nursing Home in Granville Road by hosting an event at the town’s Royal British Legion Club.

Staff at The Cottage Christian Nursing Home in Newport receive a £550 cash boost on behalf of residents following a fundraising event organised by Barrie and Jean Allcock.

Mr Allcock decided to host the event, which featured live music, auction and raffle as a thank you to staff at the home, who had cared for his brother-in-law Mike Whitfield.

The money has now been added to the home’s Residents’ Fund, which is used to purchase new items for those staying in the home or to fund trips.

Home manager Julie Stevenson thanked Mr and Mrs Allcock for the generous donation.

“The residents have decided to use the money to purchase some new outdoor furniture for the garden which we think is a wonderful idea,” she said.

“Now all we need is for the sun to shine so we can get outside and enjoy it.”

Ann Whitfield, who presented a cheque to the home along with Mr and Mrs Allcock, also thanked the home for caring for her husband.

She said: “The work that the staff do at the Cottage Christian Nursing Home is admirable to say the least. I would not have any worry about recommending the home to anyone that is looking for a placement to take care of their loved ones.”
