Coverage care is a not for profit organisation with 14 care homes in Shropshire providing EMI, Nursing and Residential facilities. Barclay Gardens is part of a purpose built care complex with 40 single bedrooms providing care for older people and those living with dementia.

Activities Organiser – 15 hours per week

Post Objective: To maintain the highest quality of care to clients within the home through the provision of a stimulating environment in which the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs of the individual are met. In accordance with Coverage Care’s Code of Practice, policies and all current relevant legislation.

Job Description - Summary of Principal Responsibilities:

  1. To build and maintain good relationships with service users, helping to create a warm and friendly atmosphere within which service users can be encouraged to develop to their fullest potential.
  2. To create, organise and offer service users a stimulating programme of activities offering internal & external activity sessions, using organisations such as Shropshire Reminiscence, Age Concern and entertainers to support the program.
  3. To ensure that one to one activities are available as well as group sessions.
  4. To co-ordinate & produce an activities programme and ensure that this is circulated for all service users to know what is taking place. Attending resident meetings to see if service users are happy with the activities on offer, as and when required.
  5. To participate in activities with service users, and delegate to staff, activity responsibilities to ensure that activities are taking place at regular intervals.
  6. To arrange photographs of events that take place, and to supply articles to Central Office for newsletter.
  7. To be aware of emergency procedures, report hazards to the Manager and respond to emergencies as appropriate.
  8. To ensure risk assessments have been carried out for all activities, outings and events as necessary.
  9. To be responsible for your own Health and Safety and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions. Ensuring staff members know how to use appropriate equipment, promoting a safe working practice in the care home.
  10. To report any changes in service user’s physical or emotional condition to the Duty Manager. Contribute to discussions on individual care plans for service users and the reporting process by maintaining and updating records of activities as required.
  11. To act at all times in a professional manner to visitors, staff and service users within the home.
  12. To ensure that service user confidentiality & dignity is maintained at all times.
  13. To participate in appropriate training, and attend staff meetings as requested by the Manager, maintaining professional knowledge and competence.
  14. Ensure the service provision is anti-discriminatory and culturally sensitive responding to individual needs, with regard to race, religion, culture, language, gender, sexual orientation, age and disability.
