Last week Public Health England started ‘surge’ testing in Newport (Shropshire) in response to concerns about a rise in Covid cases linked to the new Indian variant.
With our Cottage Christian home being in the town, we took the decision, following guidance from the local Public Health Director, to temporarily suspend outgoing visits and to increase our own testing regime.
We also advised people not to take their relatives to Newport and to limit designated visitors to those who do not live in the town, and we have been grateful for your support on these changes.
We’re pleased to report however, that all tests have returned a negative result and we have not been informed of any further concerns in the Newport area.
We are therefore lifting the temporary suspension on outward visits for residents at the Cottage Christian home and will now be returning to our normal testing regime for both staff and residents.
Designated visitors residing in Newport will once again be able to visit our homes too.
As always, we would like to thank you for your continued patience and support during these challenging times.
We understand it is difficult when rules change at short notice but sadly, it seems it is something we may have to get used to as we continue to respond to the changing nature of the virus and deal with further potential outbreaks in our local areas.
We know families are as committed as we are to keeping everyone safe and by working together, we can continue to protect our residents and staff.
