It’s been a difficult week for everyone as we, along with the rest of the nation, digest the news that coronavirus cases are on the rise again across the UK.
The Government issued new guidance to the public earlier this week and the Directors of Public Health in Telford and Shropshire have now released a set of directions to care homes across the county.
This new guidance requests that all care homes close their doors to non-essential visitors from Sunday, September 27, unless ‘exceptional circumstances’ apply.
It is with regret therefore that we will be closing all our homes at 6pm on this date in accordance with this new guidance.
We would like to reassure family members that this decision has been taken by senior public health officials due to concerns around heightened community infection rates and it relates to all homes across the county and not just our own.
While it’s a worry for us all to learn that coronavirus infection rates both nationally and in our county are rising again, Coverage Care Services is continuing to take the strongest possible steps to protect residents and staff.
We continue to test staff and residents on a regular basis, we are investing heavily in personal protective equipment and we have a robust protocol in place for dealing with any resident or staff member who may present with Covid-19 symptoms.
If you were due to visit a relative in one of our homes next week, we are deeply sorry that this will no longer be able to take place and you should expect to receive a phone call from a member of our team.
As always, we continue to make every effort to ensure relatives can maintain contact with their loved ones through scheduled telephone calls or Skype calls. We know it’s not the same as seeing someone in person but we hope it will offer some comfort during these extraordinary times.
Where there are exceptional circumstances such as in the case of end of life care, it might still be possible for a designated person to visit a home and these arrangements can be discussed with individual home managers.
As ever, we thank you for your support and patience in this difficult time.
