We are proud to have in place a robust training and development programme which encourages all staff to have the opportunity to fulfil their own personal potential and in turn benefit the service user by having a highly trained and motivated team looking after them. We have a dedicated full time NVQ co-ordinator who is also a qualified assessor and a personnel and training officer who co-ordinates all the company training and development programmes. Each member of staff completes an individual training portfolio including a development assessment and profile, which is monitored to ensure that all staff training is kept up to date and is relevant to their position. All new members of staff receive Induction Training, at the Company’s central office, upon commencement of employment which leads onto NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care. All care staff receive mandatory training in: Moving and Handling, Care Plan Training, Medication, Infection Control, Health and Safety, Basic Food Hygiene, Personal Care, Communication, Dealing with Challenging Behaviour, First Aid, Fire Awareness, P.O.V.A, Palliative Care, Alzheimer Accredited Training and N.V.Q.2. We have staff trained as qualified teachers in the Extend exercise programme. The EXTEND syllabus includes Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology, the Process of Ageing, Class Planning, use of Music and Rhythm and the EXTEND philosophy. Those who gain their Diploma affiliate to EXTEND and the commitment does not stop there as EXTEND Teachers are obliged to undertake Continuing Professional Development sessions annually in order to retain their status as a qualified EXTEND Teachers. The initial training period for EXTEND is 4-6 months culminating in a theoretical and practical examination. Following on from this initial training period, teachers will now have the opportunity to obtain the newly accredited City and Guilds Affinity Level 3 certificate in Enhancing Movement Activities with Older People. All senior staff complete mandatory training as above plus Risk Assessment Training, Health and Safety and undertake NVQ Level 3. The Manager and Deputies undertake the Registered Managers Award and Health & Social Care (Adults) Level 4. Regulations for NVQ qualified staff states that 50% of care staff must hold an NVQ qualification. Coverage Care exceeds the required sector figures as over 80% of our staff are qualified with a further working towards the award. |
