Staff and residents at Fairholme care home in Oswestry were joined by the mayor of Oswestry Cllr Margaret Chamberlain and Chief Executive of Coverage Care David Coull to support the national Dignity Action campaign by releasing balloons each carrying a wish on behalf of the residents of the care home.

Dignity champion for Fairholme Victoria Mately said: “We want to make dignity in care a reality for all and by asking the residents to make a wish, we could involve them in the campaign, which they all thought was a fun idea. Some of the wishes made us cry and some of the wishes made us blush but everyone got involved and had a great time.”

Dignity Action day is a national initiative led by the dignity in care campaign to bring staff and members of the public together to make a difference to those in care.

Welcoming the mayor of Oswestry Cllr Margaret Chamberlain to Fairholme, Chief Executive of Coverage Care David Coull said: “As the largest care organisation operated in Shropshire on a not for profit basis, we completely support the Dignity Action campaign and are delighted to report that all of our staff are supporting the aims of Dignity in Care and many, like Victoria Mately at Fairholme have elected to become dignity champions themselves.

Dignity in care gives everyone the opportunity to contribute to upholding people’s rights to dignity, giving them choice, control and a sense of purpose in their lives.
